At the recent Montenegro–Slovakia Business Forum, officials and industry leaders underscored the potential for enhancing trade and embarking on long-term strategic initiatives through dialogue, knowledge sharing, and reinforced business connections between the two nations.
Pavle D. Radovanović, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro, emphasized the significance of both regional and international collaboration, highlighting the robust political, cultural, and economic relationships that bind Montenegro and Slovakia. He pointed out the vast opportunities in sectors such as energy, agriculture, food production, tourism, information technology, and innovation that remain largely untapped.
Robert Šimončič, Director of Slovakia’s SARIO agency, described the forum as a vital platform for establishing concrete partnerships and advancing collaborative projects. He mentioned a noticeable increase in Slovak interest in Montenegro, citing the participation of 31 Slovak companies at the event. Šimončič advocated for diversifying trade activities beyond the conventional sectors like automotive and electrotechnics, proposing joint efforts in green energy, water management, hospitality, and IT.
Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović highlighted the potential for enhanced economic collaboration and identified three primary areas for partnership: strengthening political-economic ties, collaborating on green energy initiatives, and fostering digital transformation. He reiterated Montenegro’s dedication to ensuring equitable treatment for all credible investors.
Echoing this sentiment, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini expressed that the strong friendship between the two countries should translate into concrete economic benefits. He pointed out tourism, digitalization, and sustainability as key opportunities for collaboration and confirmed Slovakia’s willingness to share its expertise in green and digital technologies.
The forum also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Slovak and Montenegrin companies and included bilateral meetings aimed at exploring potential joint ventures.
Representatives from the business sectors on both sides conveyed optimism about future collaborations, despite challenges such as the absence of direct air links. This event is seen as a significant milestone in reinforcing economic ties and establishing enduring partnerships.
